Following an urgent request for help from the Hearts Milk Bank (also a charity), Devon Freewheelers have today undertaken a very special mission to collect and deliver Donor Breast Milk (DBM), which by the time it has been delivered will have seen over 500 miles travelled and taken over 12 man hours to complete. The Hearts Milk Bank approached Devon Freewheelers after trying several other different sources, without any joy.
7am this morning saw our driver Dan collect 3 litres of DBM from Shepton Mallet which was then delivered to the Hearts Milk Bank in Harpenden.
Once the DBM had been handed over at the Milk Bank, Dan, them collected another 30 litres of DBM from them, which he is transporting to our base in Honiton, where he will hand it over to Trevor who will then deliver the DBM to a very grateful mum near Penzance!
This mission has been completed in the charities 4 wheeled vehicles, as our Blood Bikes can only carry 4 litres of DBM on the back.
This service has been provided by Devon Freewheelers for FREE, we have not asked for a single penny from either of the mums or the Hearts Milk Bank.......... and we are extremely proud to have played our part in ensuring that a young baby will receive donor breast milk when they most need it.
Please help us continue to be able to say yes when we are asked to help by providing our FREE service, either through special missions such as this, or through the FREE Blood Bike service we continue to provide to the county of Devon.
We really cannot do it without your support and every penny is very gratefully accepted and very much appreciated.
Thank you for your support!
