Devon Freewheelers Welcomes Renowned Paramedic as Patron

Devon Freewheelers, a vital volunteer-led charity, is thrilled to announce that renowned paramedic, Mark ‘Flymo’ Hayes, has become its official Patron. Mark Flymo Hayes Mark, a familiar face to Birmingham locals and a well-known figure in the biking community thanks to his appearances on Channel 5’s Emergency Bikers, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role. He has been a dedicated paramedic with West Midlands Ambulance Service for over 27 years, and is recognised for his commitment to bike safety and community service.

“I am honoured to be associated with Devon Freewheelers and its incredible volunteers,” said Mark. “Their tireless efforts in supporting the NHS, especially during the pandemic, are truly commendable. Their dedication to delivering vital supplies and providing essential services is invaluable to the community.”

Mark’s connection with Devon Freewheelers began in 2013 when he visited the charity’s headquarters in Honiton. Impressed by the volunteers’ dedication and the significant impact of their work, he eagerly accepted the role of Patron.

Devon Freewheelers is a registered charity that relies on the support of volunteers to provide a vital service to the NHS and the community. Our volunteer riders transport blood, medical samples, and urgent patient documents across Devon and parts of Somerset.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he went above and beyond, transforming his garage into a 24/7 operation to keep the charity’s vital blood bikes running. Now, as a trustee, he’s committed to ensuring the charity’s continued success in saving lives.

James, a dedicated Royal Marine Sergeant Major, has been a vital part of the Devon Freewheelers for over three years. Balancing his military career with his passion for biking, he volunteers as a blood biker and actively fundraises for the charity. As a newly appointed trustee, James aims to drive the charity forward, expanding its reach and ensuring its continued success in providing essential medical courier services.
