The children of a ‘devoted mum’ from Crediton who died suddenly have presented a cheque in her memory to the Devon Freewheelers.

Mum-of-two Donna Midgley, aged 44, died in hospital from a pulmonary embolism and heart attack in 2020.

Donna’s son, 10-year-old Callum Teal, presented a cheque for £265 to Dave Cook, a Devon Freewheelers Blood Biker, collected in his mum’s memory.

Callum and his sister, Keeley, had chosen Devon Freewheelers to receive the money from a congregation collection at Donna’s funeral.

Lisa Midgley, Donna’s sister-in-law, said: “We asked for anyone who would like to give at her funeral and afterwards to give it to the Blood Bikes, Devon Freewheelers, and we raised £265.”

She added: “Donna had been unwell and was admitted to hospital. She sadly died from blood clots while having a CT scan in the hospital.

“The hospital did everything it could but they were unable to save her.”

Lisa said: “Donna was a devoted mum to Keeley and Callum.”

Dave Cook, a volunteer rider with Devon Freewheelers, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity, thanked Callum, and Donna’s family, for their generous support.

He said the donations would ‘help the charity greatly’.
